Apple’s new keyboards including Mission Control and Launchpad

Apple started shipping the new wireless and wired keyboards, specially optimized for the new OS X Lion.keyboard-lion

In the refreshed keyboards the F3 and F4 buttons have been updated.

The new Lion only features Mission Control (F3) and Launchpad (F4) will replace the Expose and the Dashboard keys on the two keys.

It should be noted that within System Preferences in the Keyboard Shortcut section, one can easily assign a dedicated key for Launchpad. The downside, of course, is that assigning Lauchpad to F4 is not possible since that key was previously used by the Dashboard Widgets. So for now you’re stuck using the next best key, F5.

Unfortunately there’s still no sign of having a backlit wireless keyboard. Too bad.

Assigning Launchpad to F5 is a great idea, but it won’t work. I have two Macs. On both Macs F5 launches Mission Control, just like F3. I have tried almost every key combination on the keyboard, but no matter what I assign to LaunchPad, it doesn’t work. This makes Launchpad inaccessible to me because of my setup otherwise. Is it really possible to assign a key to Launchpad?
