If you’ve gifted somebody an iPad 2 purchased in the Vancouver area, you may have given them a bag of clay!
As many as 24 iPad 2 purchased from major Canadian retailers such as Future Shop, Best Buy, Walmart and London Drugs stores, have been swapped for modeling clay by some smart scammers along the production/delivery line.
This week CTV has investigated the cases and they’ve said that the clay iPad 2 were sold in “perfectly sealed” boxes and in some cases even the charger had been swapped with clay.
Best Buy and Future Shop declared that at least 10 clay iPad were sold in the Metro Vancouver stores, and both retailers are launching a fraud investigation.
Walmart and London Drugs are also launching their own investigations and although the local police has yet to become involved in the investigations, Apple has confirmed its full support.
Therefore, just to be on the safe side, if you are going to buy one in the Vancouver area, maybe it’s a good idea to open the box before you leave the store…unless you want to get into pottery making!
